The wellbeing of employees is receiving an increasing amount of attention year on year. However many organisations do not yet take a planned approach to supporting wellbeing in the workplace. The CIPD Health and Wellbeing at Work Survey 2019 reported that:

  • The top causes of long-term absence are mental ill health (59%) closely followed by stress (54%)
  • Stress-related absence was attributable to Workloads / Volume of Work (62%), Management Style (43%) and Relationships at Work (30%)
  • The average level of employee absence is 5.9 day per employee, per year

Here are TQC’s top reasons why you should think about enhancing wellbeing in your business:

  1. It’s simply the right thing to do as a responsible employer
  2. There is a direct connection between wellbeing and safety
  3. It will impact positively on people’s resilience to embrace and adapt to change more easily
  4. It can reduce sickness absence and therefore alleviates additional pressures placed on other employees
  5. It can impact on the bottom line by reducing spend on temporary cover costs
  6. The way you treat your employees impacts directly on the communities in which you operate
  7. Businesses that support wellbeing can attract more job applicants – they are seen as employers of choice

TQC can work with you to understand your wellbeing challenges and goals and work with you to:

  • Undertake a wellbeing survey (or focus groups) – only by knowing what’s happening in your business and what your people think and believe, can you make the changes that will have a positive impact on your business
  • Develop a wellbeing strategy based on your employee needs and your business needs
  • Develop your managers’ skills in promoting wellbeing in their teams
  • Embed wellbeing as part of your culture

The happier and healthier your employees are, the more engaged and more productive they will be.

“It has given us clearer picture of where we are and where we want to be and how to get there. Having an ‘outsider’ look at the organisation from a purely business perspective has been refreshing and helped us to identify our strengths and weaknesses objectively and clearly”
